Group Financial Controller - Malta

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Group Financial Controller with strong hospitality expertise to take ownership of the financial operations across a growing hospitality group in Malta. This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Board, responsible for driving financial discipline, ensuring consistent reporting standards, and safeguarding the integrity of financial information across all venues and entities within the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial functions across the group, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across multiple venues and entities
  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with operational leaders to align financial plans with business objectives
  • Monitor and manage group cash flow, ensuring liquidity to meet operational needs and implementing strategies to optimise working capital
  • Ensure the consistent application of accounting policies, financial standards, and strong internal controls across the organisation
  • Lead group consolidation processes and both internal and external financial reporting
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to senior management
  • Act as the main point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities
  • Oversee VAT return preparation and ensure full tax compliance across all entities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline (ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior financial management or financial controller role
  • Hospitality industry experience is essential — candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of hospitality financial operations, revenue management, and multi-venue reporting
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing finance teams
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, tax compliance, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting/ERP systems
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
