Are you an experienced maintenance professional with strong hands-on mechanical and electrical expertise? Our client, an established manufacturing and distribution company serving Malta’s construction and infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Head of Maintenance to lead its maintenance function. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining production machinery, facilities and utilities, while improving equipment reliability, minimising downtime and ensuring maintenance activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
What is expected of you?
- Lead and coordinate maintenance activities across production machinery, equipment, facilities and utilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults and carry out or supervise repairs
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules while responding effectively to equipment breakdowns
- Identify recurring faults and implement practical solutions to improve machinery reliability and minimise downtime
- Manage maintenance priorities, work orders, servicing records and critical spare parts
- Lead and support maintenance personnel while coordinating specialist contractors, service providers and statutory inspections
- Support the installation, commissioning, relocation and modification of machinery and equipment
- Monitor electrical, plumbing, compressed-air, ventilation and other factory utility systems
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety requirements, manufacturer guidelines and applicable regulations
- Support maintenance budgets, quotations, capital expenditure proposals and equipment replacement decisions
What are you expected to bring?
- Substantial industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Relevant technical qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance or a related discipline
- Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Experience maintaining motors, pumps, compressors, hydraulics, pneumatics and control systems
- Experience leading and organising maintenance activities and personnel
- Strong knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance practices
- Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, manuals and equipment specifications
- Strong problem-solving, organisational and communication skills
- A practical, proactive and safety-conscious approach
- Good communication skills in English
Experience with plastics manufacturing, PLC-controlled machinery, industrial electrical systems or automation would be considered an asset, as would recognised electrical certification and experience managing contractors and maintenance projects.
