We are currently supporting a well-established Maltese organisation in their search for an IT Assistant Manager to join their internal IT function.
What's expected of you?
- Assist in managing the organisation's day-to-day IT infrastructure and operations.
- Administer and support Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and cloud environments.
- Support network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPNs, switches, and firewalls.
- Monitor the availability, performance, reliability, and security of IT systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues and escalations beyond standard first-line support.
- Support Azure, virtualization, backup, and recovery environments, including Hyper-V and Veeam.
- Oversee helpdesk and technical support activities while helping prioritise and allocate workloads.
- Supervise, support, and mentor members of the IT team.
- Support cybersecurity policies, security incident management, IT risk assessments, and audit requirements.
- Assist with business continuity, disaster recovery, redundancy, and backup testing.
- Coordinate system upgrades, software deployments, infrastructure improvements, and other IT projects.
- Liaise with technology vendors, external consultants, and internal business stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation covering systems, configurations, and IT processes.
- Support the IT Manager or Head of IT across operational and strategic technology initiatives.
What are you expected to bring?
- A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Around 3–5 years of experience within IT infrastructure, systems administration, network administration, advanced IT support, or a closely related environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Active Directory.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 environments.
- Good understanding of networking, including LAN, WAN, VPNs, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience supporting servers, networks, cloud services, and end-user environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex L2/L3 technical issues.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and IT security controls.
- Exposure to virtualization and backup/recovery technologies.
- Experience coordinating infrastructure upgrades, deployments, or technical projects.
- Strong communication, organisational, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to remain technically hands-on while taking responsibility for people, priorities, and service delivery.
Strong advantages include:
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating technical staff.
- Experience as a Senior Systems Administrator, Senior IT Support Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or IT Team Lead.
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, Hyper-V, and Veeam.
- Experience with cybersecurity incidents, IT risk assessments, or IT audits.
- Business continuity and disaster recovery experience.
- Vendor and technology supplier management experience.
- Exposure to ITIL or formal IT service management environments.
- Microsoft, Azure, networking, cybersecurity, or ITIL certifications.
